Beve Brevisana

Branding + Package Designer

Beve Brevisana is a 70s disco-inspired cider, evoking feminine freedom and the urge to “Drink Loud” on a Saturday night.

Ask: Create a beverage brand related to an insect, with the brand identity targeting women, applied to packaging and labels.

Design process

Development

Beve Brevisana is inspired by the loudest type of Cicada insect, “Brevisana Brevis”, which can reach decibels comparable to what is heard in a dance club or discotheque. This fact led to the 70s disco theme, conjuring images of hippies and italo-disco girls. Original drawn illustrations and custom wordmark type were developed for the brand along with a colour palette meant to be feminine and delicate, yet vibrant and retro.

Execution

The result was an energetic package design meant to appeal to a youthful demographic of women looking to give their dance night flavour and fun. The name ends up being a combination of the loud insect’s name, and “beve” meaning “drink” in Italian—as apart of the Italo-disco genre theme. So, Beve Brevisana could be translated as “Drink Loud”.
